Thirupadagam Divyadesam - Sree Pandavathootha Perumal Temple - Viswaroopa Dharshan
Thirupadagam Divyadesam is well connected with the Mahabharatha. Once when Gowravas refused to
give back their kingdom to Pandavas, Pandavas were prepared themselves for
the battle. Still so many persons including the most affected Dhrowpathy alias Panchali,
Beeshamar and Dhrutharastiran were not interested for the war and by their
request Lord Krishna went to Hasthinapuram and met Gauravas in their court as
an Ambassador of Pandavas for the compromise. Sahuni, uncle to Dhuroyodhanan, an
elder in Gauravas knows very well that if Krishnan resides, supports and participates in
the battle for Pandavas, it is not at all possible to win over them
in Gurukshetram battle. Hence he planned to kill Him. They dug a deep pit under the
seat of Lord Krishna covered with a carpet and a placed well decorated chair on it. He
placed few Mallars – Wrestlers inside the pit to kill Krishna. His foolish plan is that
when Lord Krishna comes and sits on his allotted chair, it would tumble into the pit and
wrestlers would kill Krishna easily. Everything happened as Dhuriodhanan planned
and Krishna fell into the deep pit. But to the great surprise to everyone HE came out of
the pit after destroying the wrestlers within fraction of seconds, in His Viswaroopa Posture and no one could see Him as He was so Bright and not at all to face him
straight. All of them saw only the Most Brightest Light around Him. Since He came as
an Ambassador of Panadavas He is being worshipped here as Pandava Thootha
Perumal. Thoothar means Ambassador. Pada means Big and Agam means the Residing
Place. Thiru Padagam ‐ the place where the Almighty is residing in His Viswaroopa
Posture.
Once there was a 18 days Debate between a Saivite Saint named"Yagnamurthy" and Sreemaan Ramanujar here. 17 Days were gone without any
result. To succeed Ramanujar requested the Almighty to help and him and he was
asked by the Almighty to praise the songs of “Alavandhar”. By singing the songs
songs of “Alavandhar” Sreeman Ramanujar succeeded the debate and as committed
the Saivite became the disciple of Sreeman Ramanujar and changed his name as
“Arulalaperumal Emberumanar”. He has a separate shrine here. The Almighty
was hymned by All three Mudhal Azhwars as well by Thirumazhisai Azhwar.
