Thirumittacode Divyadesam - Thiruvithuvakodu Uyyavantha Perumal Temple - Anjumurthy Koil - The History
Once King Ambareesan underwent a penance here towards Lord Maha Vishnu to have
His Darshan in Vyuharoopa as Vasudevan, Sangarshanan, Prathyumnan and Anirudhan.
It is believed that King Ambareesan attained Moksha here. Pandavas during their
“Vanavasam” came down here to this temple and worshipped the Almighty. The Idols
in the West, South and center were installed and worshipped by Dharmar, Bheeman
and Arjunan respectively, whereas Nakulan and Sahadevan worshipped the statue of
Anirudhan located behind Prathyumnan. The Idol installed by Arjunana is being
worshipped as Moolavar. Temple was called as “Naalu Murthy Koil”. Naalu means Four
It is also believed that Kasi Viswanathar wanted to be present here in this temple along with the
Paranthaman’s Four Vyuharupa for which he came from Kasi as Swayambu Murthy here near the
temple’s balippedam. Henceforth the temple was known as Anju Murthy Koil
Kulasekaralwar praised the Almighty here with his 10 pasurams. There are many Sculptures on the wall of the shrine like Arjunan’s
Penance, Dasavatharam, Krishna Leela, Krishnan Kuselan Meet, Geethobathesam etc …
Once a Brahmin
from this place went to kasi and stayed there for a long period. After some time he
heard that his mother was not feeling well and had to turn back to his village. He was
very fond of worshipping Kasi Viswanathar and not ready to leave him. But with no
other option, he started from Kasi on one rainy day with an umbrella. It is believed that
Kasi Viswanathar came along with him under the umbrella. As soon as he reached the
place, he kept the umbrella near the balipeedam and went to the tank to take the holy
bath. To a big surprise when he returned from the tank, He saw a Swayambu Lingam
near the Balipeedam. He realized that Kasi Viswanathar came along with him to please
him as well to reside among the four vyuharupas of Sreeman Narayanan. Devotees
entering from south entrance can worship Ganapathy and Guru Dakshinamurthy. Lord
Ayyappan, Nagar and Vedha Vyasar can also be seen here. To prove that Pandavas
installed the Idols here, there are evidences for the temple for its existence even before the Pandavas period. Thiruvithuvakodu Divyadesams is also familiarly called as y the
